You may or may not be aware of reddit.com/r/digitalpainting. it's a communtiy for digital painters on reddit. its main purpose is the giving and receiving of constructive critique. anyway, i've been moderating it for quite a while now. when i started, we had 1800 subscribers. today we hit 20 000. those numbers are pretty big and i'm very proud.

Need a book cover or album cover or TCG art or just about anything? I'm now taking commissions! So send me an email to emrex at hotmail.com and tell me about your project and your budget and I'm sure we can work something out.

That's right, I'm back with another journal post straight outta Sweden. Things are going well on my end, painting with the intensity of a thousand suns and all of that. Maybe I haven't been updating as much as I could, but that's probably because I paint too much.

The topic of this post is about art and what kind of art we buy. I buy the occasional print from deviantart when there's a sale on. It's always digital paintings, but the motif varies. If it looks really cool I'll buy it. Sometimes I buy a rolled up print from deviantart and then pop down to the frame store and let them frame it for me, and I can just come pick it up later. Convenient and cheap!

So how about you, dear follower of ienkub? Do you ever buy prints from deviantart? Or do you go somewhere else for your art needs, like etsy? Are you looking for a specific kind of art, like is there a theme? Or maybe you are satisfied with looking at art online? Go on, drop a comment and share your thoughts!

hey guys! i know i said i wouldn't be back until the new year, but something came up. and it's pretty cool!

some of you may know i occasionally do a bit of acting. over the last fifteen years i've done small parts in swedish productions, nothing really major, the kind of films you go see at film festivals. earlier this year a couple of friends of mine, whom i've worked with numerous times before, started a film project called Restrainer and they've got not only a cool screenplay but also Kurtwood Smith. some of you know him as Red Foreman on "That 70's Show" but he's been in a lot of other cool movies, like fricken Robocop. the man has an imdb page the length of my arm, he's a legend. the project just started an Indiegogo campaign and i really hope you'll go check it out. www.indiegogo.com/projects/res… the guys behind the project, Fansu and Filipp, are really great guys and they need our help to get the word out there! help them by sharing and tweeting and facebooking the campaign (and of course consider donating).

cool beans, guys!

i thought i should write a little something now that i have fifty watchers. what's new in the cube, you wonder. (that's right: ienkub is i en kub, which means "in a cube".)

like i said, FIFTY watchers! how cool is that? thank you very much for watching, it means i have to hold the art i submit to a certain standard. i don't want to clog up your inboxes with crappy art (or spammy journal posts). it also mean i revisit some of my art i feel might not meet this standard and touch it up, i hope you don't get annoyed if the (almost) the same art shows up in your inbox more than once. (or does it? maybe it slips through unnoticed.) like Pondering ienkub.deviantart.com/art/Pond…, it's been updated twice now.

as of earlier this week i'm one of the mods at r/digitalpainting on reddit and we're trying to build a large active community. swing by to offer constructive critique or if you want to be subjected to constructive critique! don't worry though, it's a very relaxed environment.

so here's a question for you (oooh interaction!): is thanking people for favouriting your art unnecessary? the whole "thanks for the fave! you're welcome!" ritual, is it a waste of time? it feels so automated. like, i appreciate the fave and you know i appreciate the fave, do we have to spell it out to each other? your thoughts, please.

there aren't enough links in this journal so i thought it would be cool to promote some other kids. last time i wrote about painting resources, so this time i'll focus on photos and references.
we start with Mirish mirish.deviantart.com/ and her interesting stock images. and she's swedish, which is not something you see here very often. (she was also used as reference in the aforementioned Pondering.)
and then we've got aarontyree aarontyree.deviantart.com/ and his gallery of fashion portraits with lots of inspirational and referential photos. NOTE that aarontyree is not a stock photographer, you can't just copy his stuff like a thief in the night. referencing clothes and lighting and applying it to your own paintings is okay. that's how you should use references. and there's always the risk when you visit his gallery that you'll just sit there and stare at Devon Jade and forget all about your painting. or so i've heard. because that's certainly not what happened to me just now.

so where was i? i don't know, something about stock images and they're good for you. i have to go lie down. stay tuned for more journal entries in 2014!

PS. this stash.writer is absolute shite.
